Open Mesh GRP Grating Panels provide a cost-effective, low-maintenance flooring system with strong load-bearing characteristics. They are ideal for safety-critical walkways requiring durability, drainage, ventilation and high slip resistance.

GRP Grating is a preferred choice for commercial and industrial walkway applications, including platforms, gantries, bridges, ramps, riser voids and service access areas.

The open mesh profile allows water, dirt and debris to drain through the panel surface, helping to reduce standing water and improve underfoot safety. This makes Open Mesh GRP Grating particularly suitable for outdoor areas, wet environments, industrial sites and access routes where moisture, spills or exposure are common.

GRP, also known as glass-reinforced plastic, offers strong resistance to corrosion, chemicals, wear and impact. Compared with traditional steel grating, GRP grating panels are lightweight, easy to handle and simple to install, while still providing excellent strength and load-bearing performance.

Open Mesh GRP Grating is also non-conductive, non-sparking and resistant to radio frequency waves. Fire-rated options are available to BS EN 13501 and ASTM E84 standards, subject to specification and project requirements.

GRP Open Mesh Grating offers an excellent strength-to-weight ratio and is typically around 50% lighter than steel alternatives, making it easier to manoeuvre during installation without compromising durability.

Open-Mesh GRP Grating: Technical Specification

Purpose

This is a lightweight, non-conductive and corrosion resistant flooring panel system with load bearing characteristics.

They feature a slip-resistant surface finish to enhance the safety of the walkway – preventing slips, trips and falls.

These are designed to cater for drainage requirements and conforms to ball-proofing regulations.

Standard profiles feature the industry-standard 38mm x 38mm square pitch profile. Alternatives, both smaller and larger - including 50mm x 50mm are also in-stock and are available on request.

Typical Applications

  • Walkways

  • Platforms

  • Bridges

  • Maintenance Bays

  • Ramps

  • Gantries

  • Riser Voids

  • Catwalks

Suitable Environments

For use within commercial and industrial environments such as:

  • Transport Hubs - Station Platform Environments, Access Platforms & Maintenance Facilities.

  • Off-Shore Structures - For Resource & Energy Sectors - Such as Wind Farms and Oil Rigs.

  • Construction Sites, Engineering & Manufacturing Production Facilities.

  • Steel Fabrication Services & Factories.

  • Chemical, Waste & Food Processing Centres.

  • Power Stations, Water, Gas & Energy Facilities.

  • Events, Stadiums & Exhibition Centres.

  • High Rise Buildings, Data Centres & Office Spaces.

  • Hospitals, Educational Facilities, and public buildings.

Installation Process

Installation is a simple process. GRP materials are usually 50% lighter than steel alternatives. This ensures the system is easily transportable on-site.

Specialist Clips and Bolts fix the panels to the substrate and connect adjoining panels together. These include M-Clips and C-Clips. This allows for easy adaptation to different layouts or configurations, ensuring a seamless installation onto new or existing structures.

Material Characteristics & Properties

Material

GRP (Glass-Reinforced-Plastic) Fibreglass.

Slip Resistance

The slip-resistant surface surpasses BS 7976 standards and classes as enhanced non-slip surface finish. This enhances safety practice to prevent slips, trips and falls within wet, icy, and oily conditions.

Fire Resistance

Fibreglass Walkway Grating is fire-resistant to ASTM-E-84 compliance standards, with non-sparking, non-conductive characteristics. The material is an electric, magnetic, and thermal insulator.

This achieves BS EN 13501 & ASTM E84 standard for flame spread and smoke development.
