Open-Mesh GRP Grating Panels provide a cost-effective, low-maintenance structural flooring system with strong load-bearing characteristics. They are ideal for commercial and industrial environments, with typical applications including walkways, riser voids, gantries, bridges, ramps and platforms.

GRP, also known as glass-reinforced plastic, offers strong resistance to chemicals, corrosion, wear and impact. It provides a durable alternative to traditional steel grating while remaining lightweight, easy to handle and simple to install.

GRP grating panels offer an excellent strength-to-weight ratio and are typically around 50% lighter than steel grating alternatives. Fibreglass grating options can also offer non-sparking and non-conductive characteristics, with fire-rated options available subject to specification.

The open-mesh profile allows water, dirt and debris to drain through the panel surface while providing ventilation through the panel structure. This makes Open-Mesh GRP Grating suitable for applications where airflow, moisture or spills may be a consideration.

Benefits of Open Mesh GRP Grating

Open-Mesh GRP Grating is commonly selected for applications requiring drainage, ventilation, corrosion resistance and high slip resistance. The gritted anti-slip surface helps improve underfoot safety in wet, exposed and industrial environments.

GRP grating requires minimal maintenance compared with steel alternatives and does not require painting or galvanising. Its corrosion-resistant properties make it suitable for demanding environments, including chemical, waste, food processing, transport, manufacturing and energy-sector applications.

Open-Mesh Profiles cater for drainage and ball-proof test requirements, whilst providing excellent ventilation, allowing air to circulate freely. This solves concerns within industrial and commercial environments, where heat or fumes may be present.

Additionally, the open-apertures provide highly effective liquid drainage, averting the build-up of water that could create a risk of slipping. This feature is particularly beneficial in outdoor or industrial environments where moisture or spills are common.

GRP Grating Technical Specification

Open-Mesh GRP Grating Panels are modular structural flooring panels designed for walkways, platforms, riser voids, access areas and open void coverage. The open-mesh profile provides drainage, ventilation and high slip resistance for commercial and industrial environments.

Purpose

Open-Mesh GRP Grating is designed to provide a lightweight, durable and corrosion-resistant alternative to traditional steel grating.

Standard panels are available with 38mm x 38mm or 50mm x 50mm square profiles, depending on the required application, drainage and load-bearing requirements.

Material

GRP, also known as glass-reinforced plastic, is manufactured using resin and glass fibre reinforcement to create a strong, impact-resistant and long-lasting panel structure.

GRP grating is resistant to corrosion, chemicals, wear and weathering, making it suitable for high-footfall commercial and industrial environments.

Fire Resistance & Electrical Properties

Open-Mesh GRP Grating can offer non-conductive and non-sparking properties, making it suitable for selected industrial and access applications.

Fire-rated options may be available to ASTM E84 or BS EN 13501 standards, subject to product specification and project requirements.

Installation

GRP Grating Panels are lightweight and easier to handle than traditional steel grating alternatives. Panels can be supplied in standard stock sizes or cut to size to suit project requirements.

GRP grating clips and fixings can be used to secure panels to suitable support structures. M-Clips and C-Clips are commonly used fixing options for Open-Mesh GRP Grating installations, depending on the panel type and support arrangement.

Typical Grating Panel Weights

GRP panels offer a strong strength-to-weight ratio and are typically lighter than comparable steel grating alternatives.

The typical weights below are based on 3660mm x 1220mm panels:
